I feel like I’m like most homeowners; I’m forever looking for more storage space. We have a pretty big garage, but our cars pretty much take up all the room in there. And forget about the closets. Those bad boys are overflowing with old shoes and clothes.
Your Needs:
Well, I just don’t need any type of specific storage space. I really need multi-purpose space that can be used as a private office too. So I needed a carport that was a just big enough to store a mid-sized sedan comfortably. Now I just had to figure out how much damage it would do to my wallet.
Your Budget:
I don’t have much money, which is one of the reasons I decided to buy premium diy carports rather than hire a contractor to build a room addition that would easily cost $8,000 or more. Even though I wasn’t sure how much my future carport will cost, I knew I could afford $3,000 on the very high end. This would get me a carport with great insulation and wired for electricity right out of the box.
Online:
The first place you want to start shopping is online. You’ll find the best deals for any carport that you’re interested in buying. Since many of these websites don’t have to pay for a physical storefront, they can offer discounts beginning at 5% and can rise depending on their inventory. The only down part is paying for shipping. Since the kit is so heavy, you can expect to pay almost an $100 or so just for shipping.
Offline – Stores:
If you’re not comfortable with buying online, you can always go to a hardware store like Home Depot or Lowes and buy your carport there. You may not be able a discount, but you’ll get a chance to check out your carport in person. Plus, delivery is free in most cases and some smaller hardware stores will offer an installation discount.
At the end of the day, a premium carport can cost you anywhere from $1,500 to $4,000. The size of the carport plays a significant part in the overall cost of the carport. So if you need a smaller carport (big enough to comfortably store 1 compact car) you can look to spend between $1,500 to $2,500. If you’re looking for a bigger carport (two cars) you’ll be spending at least $3,000.
