Rolfing scoliosis treatment is a way to correct the posture. The method includes structural integration of the body which addresses scoliosis and other skeletal deformities.
Basically people keep three types of postures:
- Stooping
- Belly Forward
- Straight back.
If the posture is incorrect, it may lead to worsening the spine condition, spinal muscle ruining, can cause deformation and displacement of internal organs and the formation of intervertebral hernia.
Rolfing helps to address the improper posture by eliminating the disadvantages of posture even in the case of the spinal deformation.
So what is Rolfing?
Rolfing is a deep massage of the connective tissue that connects muscles and skeletal system. Through it one can affect the bones and joints so that the gravitational load is distributed between them evenly.
The massage originated from biophysicist Ida Rolf who in 1940-50 discovered that while working on the connective tissues and muscles, re-educating “the right” movement can return the correct posture to the patient and restore the back muscle tone. Originally Rolfing was called a structural integration; it is a holistic healing method and reorganizes the structure of the body so that it begins to act in concert with the forces of gravity, and not in confrontation with them.
The process includes a deep massage to relive stress accumulated in the connective tissue sheath surrounding the muscle, the muscle fibers, ligaments and tendons, which form the shape of the human body. But it is not a massage in a general sense, but rather a method to erase the so called muscle memory. The idea is that our muscles can remember certain things like movements and emotional states, which is called the emotional fixation. If we experience a stressful condition our body «fixes” this state and it may turn into a problem if not released. The deep massage practice done according to Rolfing helps to release this fixation and erase this muscle memory in order to get the back into its original or at least healthy state. So, in other words, Rolfing for scoliosis helps to restore the spine and the surrounding muscles to their healthy and original state.
Can Rolfing Be Used To Treat Scoliosis In Children?
Yes, Rolfing can give positive results for kids; it can help create a proper balance in spinal muscles and “fix” this to help children keep the proper posture throughout their lives. Of course nobody can guarantee that a person will keep the right posture forever as there are many conditions including back trauma that might lead to bad posture, but nevertheless, the Rolfing method can still be very helpful for youngsters. In case there are the early signs of scoliosis in kids, Rolfing can eliminate them at the very root and help prevent the future scoliosis occurrences.

It’s amazing what Rolfing can do for scoliosis.
