The Importance of Log Home Repair and Restoration

Published on October 31, 2011 by in Home

If you own a log home or cabin, you should keep in mind that these homes may not last for a long time when they are not appropriately maintained. These log homes are made of natural woods, and when they are not taken good care of, they can easily rot and can be destroyed by various elements and particles. If you do not want this to happen in your log home, you should ensure to maintain and repair your log home regularly.

It is necessary to take proper care of your home because your home is considered your haven. This is the place where you are safe and comfortable at most times, plus you have invested your money on these properties. If you do not maintain your house, especially your log home, expect that it will not last for a long time and eventually, you will just lose your precious possession.

There could be many elements that may develop and cause damage to log homes. It is necessary to be aware of these particles so that they can be prevented to develop, or they can be treated accordingly.

These particles may include the following:

  • Wet particles- Never allow the logs to remain in wet weather conditions, or permit wet particles to inflict the logs. When logs are always exposed to wet particles, they can easily become damaged.
  • Deposition of fungus- When logs are not fully dried, there is a huge possibility for the deposit of fungus on the surface of the logs. There are antifungal treatments that could remove the fungus bacteria.  To prevent the fungus to develop, ensure to dry the logs completely.
  • Insect manifestations- When logs are not properly treated and maintained, possible insect manifestations may occur. These insects could destroy the logs because they would eat the woods.

Having a clean, stain free, and gorgeous log home is important because you and your family are living in that house. Be aware of the possible particles that may develop on logs so that you can do something to prevent and treat the problems.

  1. Hi, Nice article on log home restoration. Keeping logs cared for and free of mold is the first step to keeping the log home new for years. The other important factor is to use a really good sealant so that the mold, rot, and any water damage does not have a good chance of getting really deep into the logs. An ounce of prevention is worth a ton of cure!
