Back pain is not uncommon today when we tend to work in an artificial environment of offices and sitting before the computer screens. The sedentary lifestyle made us less physically active, which led to the health state decrease and the appearance of many ailments related to the modern lifestyle.

Mainly the sedentary lifestyle affects upper and lower back, which leads to the stiffness and pain. To get rid of the condition one should understand the causes of it and treat the condition accordingly.

While there are many causes of the back pain in upper back between shoulder blades, the most common one is improper posture during sitting or standing. To address this cause and remove it, you should watch your daily activities to see how you sit or stand, and if you notice a bad posture, correct it immediately. Bad posture can be the cause of many ailments not only back pain, so keeping a good posture is really vital for our health. Correct posture means that your spine is on its optimal position, and well balanced; and since all the main nerve channels go through it, the condition and position of the spine influences all the connections between our body systems, especially those related to movement.

Many people stoop while sitting or standing; this is an example of the bad posture. Stooping or slouching is the very common cause of upper back pain, which can even lead to the chronic upper back pain between shoulder blades if one constantly stoops.

Another popular cause is the improper weight lifting. For example you can carry a heavy weigh in one hand for long time – this may lead to upper back muscle pain between shoulder blades, and in the lumbar region. Try to balance your weights while carrying them, or change your hands from time to time.

If you do a weight lifting workout, monitor the condition of your muscles to avoid overtraining and straining them too much. If you learn how to lift heavy weight from the ground, do it in a squatting position, and when you grab your weight, rise slowly straightening your legs, and avoid tension in the lumbar area during it.

If you feel a severe upper back pain between shoulder blades, which might be caused by trauma or any other among the above mentioned causes, contact your doctor as soon as you can to receive professional recommendations on what to do to safely and properly get rid of this pain. If you cannot access the doctor at the time, put some cold compress on the suffering area, if the cause of the pain was a blow or hit. If you think, you pulled a muscle, apply warm compress to relax the upper back muscles and reduce painful sensation. Warm compress will increase blood circulation in the area and speed up healing. Do not try any type of self treatment until you know the cause of the pain in upper back between shoulder blades, and how to treat it.

    I fell a couple of months ago flat on my back. I have had relief on all parts of my body except pain between my shoulder blades when I use my arms in cooking such as chopping veg. and esp when I use the computer. Would this me muscle problems, tendons, or ligaments.
