3 Tips To Use Under Bed Storage Drawers

We all know how important it is to manage the available bedroom space wisely. Under bed storage drawers are proving to be very good space-savers and smart-storage option. To reap maximum benefit from this option, keeping a few tips in mind would be helpful:

Buying Or Designing Under Bed Storage Drawers:

When buying or newly designing/building your bedroom furniture, you can buy ready-made beds or order custom-made beds with built-in under bed drawers. You can choose from different designs and styles – for example, flat platform beds with built-in storage boxes or ordinary raised beds with slide-in, slide-out drawers underneath etc. These drawers can be installed with strong, decorative handles and knobs. The drawers can be effortlessly pulled out and pushed in with help of good quality caster wheels, which smoothly slide on the flooring – whether floor surface is wood/ply, tile or flagstone, they will leave no marks/scratches/tracks.

If you already have ordinary raised beds without any built-in under bed storage, do not fret – you can still use the space below by investing a meager amount of money in ready-made, store-bought storage drawers and boxes/bins, which can be simply placed under the beds. You can buy them at any neighborhood mall/store, they are inexpensive, come in variety of sizes, shapes, colors, are made of durable materials like plastic, rubber, metal-alloy mix, wicker, cloth/fabric/canvas, have caster wheels for mobility, handles, lids, locks et al. If you wish, you could also order customized storage drawers or boxes as per dimensions of your beds. Custom-built, sturdy wooden and metal drawers or boxes/bins can last for generations.

What To Store In Under Bed Storage:

Under bed drawers are not meant to store every day essentials. They are ideal to stow away occasionally/rarely used things:

Extra bedding and linen, comforters for guests, extra bed sheets, blankets, pillows; upholstery and window treatments/curtains; seasonal items like sweaters, coats, galoshes, snow-shoes, umbrellas, beach-wear, hats; children’s toys and books, board games, musical instruments; Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanza lighting and decorations; garbage/storage/vacuum cleaner bags and bins; suitcases, travel luggage; heavier, bulkier things like weigh scales; foot spas, electric-electronic gadgets etc;

You can compartmentalize each drawer/box to store your stuff in an organized manner; this will help you in searching/locating any item without wasting time and effort.

Look And Feel Of Under Bed Storage:

Whether built-in or separately placed underneath, the under bed drawers and boxes/bins must gel in with the overall design and style of the beds and look elegant to the onlooker. You can also dress the beds in overhanging bed skirts to hide the underneath storage area from view.

Many a times, we avoid under bed storage, thinking it is a cumbersome, inaccessible place and if we do use it at all, we feel that the things stored underneath look shabby if left in open view – however, if we design, build or buy decent elegant under bed storage drawers and boxes/bins, we would be able to appreciate the usefulness of under the bed spaces.
